Many women use tampons rather than other sanitary pads because they appear to be more absorbent, less conspicuous, and easier to carry around. But a lot of people are not aware of the dangers of using tampons.
The biggest danger is Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). This danger is occurs in women under 30, and particularly those between 15 and 19. It is caused by bacteria stored in the fabric of the tampon. TSS is potentially fatal in some cases, while survivors have suffered from severe organ damage, loss of limbs, loss of hair and miscarriages.
Other dangers include toxins used in the process of bleaching the tampon fibres such as dioxin and furan. There is also wood chip in the fabric.
The best way to avoid these risks is to avoid using tampons, and to use organic pure cotton, which can be purchased from any good health food store.
