Every chemical that makes it into your bloodstream, from any direction (lungs, stomach, skin intake) meets up with your liver at some point. From there the toxins are separated out. Some of them are locked into the liver organ. Some of them are sent to the kidneys and colon for elimination. And some of them become trapped in bones, muscles, tissues and other organs and even end up in fat cells.
The more unhealthy your diet, the more toxins your liver has to deal with. If your liver has too much on its plate, it can’t keep up. This means that your metabolism will slow down, and your weight will increase as a result. Not only that, but you’ll have less energy, and have a harder time fighting disease. Definitely not desirable.
Here are some tips to help your liver detox!
- Twice a day, just before a meal, drink a cup of warm water with the juice of half a fresh lemon
- Eat protein every day, preferably at every meal. Eggs are an amazing source of protein
- Don’t miss out on your essential Omega-3 oils. Walnuts are a great source for this, and very tasty too!
- Be sure to get all of your essential minerals such as copper, magnesium and zinc. They all aid liver function.
